25 Sep 2008, 2:59 pm

A truely mobile office is now a reality, and with none of the compromises that have been associated with mobile office solutions in the past.

The key to a modern mobile office is 3G Mobile Internet. High speed internet access is now available in the office, the home, on the road, or at the beach; wherever there is 3G coverage available, giving access to corporate networks, email, general internet browsing, even SMS.

Arrow Anywhere is Arrow’s 3G Mobile Internet solution. It is available in a range of competitively priced download sizes to suit your requirements. It operates on the Optus 3G network, which has been undergoing a massive expansion programme over the last 6 months. It currently covers 85% of the Australian population and is expected to match or better all competitors in 2009.

Features & Benefits

No IT Required – Installation is quick and simple. Simply plug in the USB modem and install the software (preloaded in the USB modem) by following the simple on screen instructions. You will be up and running in just a few minutes

Totally Mobile – Access your corporate network whilst out at a sales meeting for those all important documents, respond to critical emails whilst waiting at the dentist, or catch up on local news whilst catching a cab home from the airport.

SMS - Type out SMS messages quickly and easily on your laptop. Arrow Anywhere is capable of sending, receiving and storing SMS messages right on your laptop or PC, making keeping in touch with the office, family and friends easier than ever.

Seamless Connection - Just like your mobile phone, Arrow Anywhere will maintain a constant connection as you move from  area to area. Even when moving from 3G coverage to 2G coverage the wireless modem will automatically switch to whatever network will provide the best performance.

Coverage Abroad – You can also take your Arrow Anywhere with you when travelling overseas for business or pleasure. Optus has more than 219 data roaming partner networks in over 101 countries, with 58 Data roaming partners offering a high speed HSPA networks in over 39 countries.

How Fast?

Arrow Anywhere uses the Optus 3G/HSPA network to deliver an internet service. The theoretical maximum download speed available on 3G/HSPA network is up to 3.6Mbps. Customers can expect speeds between 512kbps and 1.5Mbps. Burst speeds up to 3Mbps. Actual speeds will vary and may be slower.

Network Technology                         Practical Speed                   Maximum Speed
Wireless Broadband 3G/(HSPA)    512 – 1500kbps                   Up to 3.6Mbps*
GSM                                                       20 – 40kbps                         Up to 50kbps

* 3.6Mbps is the theoretical maximum. Average speed of between 512Kbps and 1.5 Mbps with speeds up to 3.0Mbps.

As the service is portable service actual speeds will vary and may be slower. Many factors affect speeds such as:

  • Your location and distance from the Optus Mobile tower
  • The network used to connect to the service (the Optus 3G/HSPA or GSM network);
  • The number of users sharing the network;
  • The source of your download;
  • General Internet traffic;
  • Your hardware and software configuration

Within Optus Mobile GSM network areas, including NT and TAS, you will not experience broadband speeds.

I just got my partner one of these 3g wireless thingies. They have become very popular & i notice that pretty much all the mobile phone companies are selling them. Wondering if you knew if there was a major difference between them, or are they all pretty much the same thing?

Thanks,
Jerome
