Business Grade IP Voice Vs VOIP and IP Trunked Technology
7 Oct 2008, 10:31 amThe means of turning voice into packets of data has been around for many years now and has proved to be a cost effective way to communicate.
There are two main ways that these packets of data can be sent.
1. Sending the the packets of data across the Internet
2. Sending the packets of data across a digital subscriber line (DSL)
Sending packets of voice data across the Internet is what we refer to at Arrow as a residential grade VOIP solution.
The main floors for VOIP are the fact that the web is unsecured and unreliable leaving the voice traffic open to be hacked into easily and because the millions of packets of data get sent the easiest and quickest possible way determined by the internet they can get broken up and sent to many different places before reaching the destination of the call.
Once they reach the destination they run the risk of been put back together in the wrong order which makes it very hard to understand the voice, packet loss and latency also impacts the quality of the voice.
VOIP and IP trunking is not a guaranteed service and more importantly is not governed by the TIO which leaves the industry open to many small companies selling this solution and not been able to support it.
Business Grade IP Voice solutions include voice over DSL and ISDN technology. Again voice is turned into packets of data, but rather than been sent across the internet the packets of data are sent from the phone system to and integrated access device (IAD).
From the IAD the data is sent down a DSL line to the exchange where the voice is turned back into an analogue voice call and sent across the exchanges.
The DSL line is secure and can not be hacked, the packets of data flow down the same path and arrive to the destination in the same order as they were sent and the networks that offer these products are governed by the TIO and offer service levels of agreement. It is for this reason businesses can rely on the quality and reliability of the business grade VODSL and ISDN.
