Causes of Excess Data Charges
12 Oct 2009, 1:59 pmArrow Voice & Data provide all customers with on online portal to check your own data usage. This can be found at https://myaccount.activebilling.com.au/arrow/login. If you still find that you are going over your data limit then here are a few of the most common things that you can check:
- Unsecured Wireless Network – When switching on the wireless feature of your modem/router you also need to ensure that you add security in the form of a password or passkey. This will mean that people will need to enter this password in order to connect to your network. The longer the password the more secure the network. If anyone can walk into your office and connect to your network with a laptop then your network is not secured and you should have a technician look at this immediately.
- Peer to Peer File Sharing – If your uploads are also high then this could point to some sort of file sharing software. This software is used to download movies, music or TV shows and is very popular. Most file sharing software will continue to run in the background by default after it has been closed contributing to high downloads and uploads.
- Microsoft Updates – If you have had a new server installed then Microsoft can download every single update that they have ever released. This can contribute to high downloads. The server may also be configured to download these updates individually for each machine rather than just once.
- Increase in Staffing Levels – If you have recently employed some new staff then you need to allow for the usage of those new staff members.
- Increase in Business – As your business grows you may find you are relying on the Internet more and more and so you may need to reconsider how much data you will be using.
If you are concerned about excess usage then please call Arrow Customer Service and we can discuss your options for increasing your download limit.
