How can an inbound number help my business?

28 Sep 2009, 4:13 pm

An inbound number is a 1300, 1800, or 13 number. This is a virtual number which routes from the exchange to any answer point you designate. This is extremely useful if you need to relocate your business as it doesn’t matter if you need to change your number.  All you then do is change the answering point of your inbound number to point to your new number.

An inbound number also has various different routing options which can help to ensure you never miss a call or message. These options are:

  • Australia Wide Routing - Standard routing which allows you to accept calls to your inbound number from any number in Australia.
  • Call Overflow – You can set your inbound number to answer at one number and if unanswered or engaged it will ring at a second number and even a third number if required. So if you need to leave your office frequently you can set all your calls to ring on your landline and overflow to your mobile.
  • Time of Day – Using this option you can have your calls ring at one number between your business hours and ring at a second number after hours and weekends ensuring your business never misses a call. You can select different numbers for different times, days and dates.
  • Call Splay – If you have multiple offices you can split the calls to distribute between these offices. For example, you may wish to send 70% of calls to your head office and 30% to your second office.
  • State Based Routing – This is particularly useful if you have offices in multiple states as you can send calls from within each state to whichever office you like.
  • Postcode & Exchange Based Routing – This is very in-depth routing which takes a lot to setup but is very useful if you have a lot of offices or franchises. You can distribute your calls based on the postcode or exchange that the call comes from. This is especially useful for Australia wide franchise.
  • Call barring – With an inbound number you can also bar calls from certain numbers. For example, you can bar calls from mobiles or interstate.
