How to prevent a slow internet connection?
7 Dec 2009, 9:25 amTelephone wiring – Check the telephone wiring, make sure the phone line is in good condition. If the telephone wiring is deteriorating, chances are you will pick up stray signals or cross talk from other phone lines. These will slow down your internet connection because the modem is getting interrupted. If this is happening to you, you can speak to your phone provider to have them check the phone lines.
Virus – If your computer is infected with viruses, it installs computer code which will attempt to populate your computer. The unwanted activity will decrease your computer and internet speed. Your best prevention from viruses is to have antivirus software on at all times.
P2P and Add on – P2P is designed for file sharing and it heavily utilizes your internet connections, therefore it will slow down your other program you are running. Manage your browser add on, it might be appealing to have this feature, but not having this feature might just make your explorer load quicker.
Congestion and traffic – can also result in slow internet speeds. This usually happens in peak periods, when everyone is trying to connect to the internet at the same time. If you are in a corporate environment and experiencing very slow speed to your internet speed, this is because you are sharing the same connection with many people.
So my suggestion is to check your hardware like modem, routers (secured router), cables, wirings and phone connection etc. Make sure that your computer is healthy and you are not running unnecessary programs, add-ons, spywares etc and ensure your anti-virus program is running.
