How to setup a vpn connection on an iphone
26 Jul 2010, 9:06 amA VPN is a secure connection to a private computer network that runs across the internet. It allows business users to securely connect to their corporate networks and access network resources such as shared documents.
Connecting to a corporate network via a VPN is quite simple with the iPhone. The iPhone supports most common VPN protocols including Cisco IPSec, L2TP over IPSec, and PPTP.
To setup a new VPN connection on an iPhone, make sure you are connected to either the 3G mobile network or a WiFi network. Next tap Settings –> General –> Network –> VPN. Then tap Add VPN Configuration. The following screen will then appear.

Choose L2TP, PPTP or IPSec depending on the type of VPN that is setup in your organisation. Enter all of the details such as username and password as provided by your IT department.
Once the setup is complete, the connection will be listed on the VPN screen under Choose a Configuration…
To initiate a connection, slide the VPN button to On. Depending on your setup you may be prompted to enter your username and password.
You should now be connected to your VPN. You can tell this by looking at the top of your iPhone screen. It will display a VPN icon as shown in the image below.
