Reverse DNS (RDNS)
23 Oct 2009, 3:32 pmHow Reverse DNS (Domain Name System) Works (RDNS)
DNS server is responsible for domain name. Standard DNS turning a host name into an IP. The registrar sends the IP and domain name information to the root server. Everyone can access that domain, and you can send them to any IP addresses you want. Make sure you obtain a permission from the IP’s account holder before pointing any domain to that IP.
Reverse DNS is turning the IP address back into the domain name. You request DNS entry from your ISP, and they will give this information out when their DNS servers get queried for your reverse DNS entry. Then, anyone in the world can look up the reverse DNS entry for your IP, and you can return any host names you want. It is a translation of numeric addresses of the website (The IP addresses) to domain name or domain host name.
