What is Preselection?
13 Oct 2008, 10:25 amPreselection is a two step process that occurs when a phone line is churned to a new carrier.
It is responsible for the billing of Long Distance and Mobile calls from your phone line.
The first step of Preselection is Activation with the new Long Distance Carrier. This is when your phone line is activated on the network and you are able to make calls using an override code.
The second step is Preselection this is when the carrier completes the process and enables your phone line to make Long Distance calls without the use of an override code.
If you are still getting a bill from your old provider for only long distance and calls to mobiles it is because the Activation or Preselection process has failed with your new provider. This is a common occurrence and can be simply fixed with a request to the Customer Service Department of your new carrier. Advise the department that your Long Distance is not working.
The Provisioning Team will be informed of this and will re send and monitor the request until completion at which point you will be advised this is has been fixed.
