What is PTR record?

PTR record is the opposite of the A record.  A records resolve domain name to an IP address.  PTR record resolve IP address to a domain name.  PTR records are created to make sure that your e-mails will not be rejected by other mail servers.   If you are using Arrow Voice & Data server, then you do not have to worry about setting up PTR record.  You may always check whether a particular IP address has a PTR record created by going into your command prompt and type “nslookup followed by the IP address or the domain name”.  Not every IP address has a corresponding PTR record.  There is no technical requirement as far as proper DNS function is concerned for PTR records.  They were designed as a matter of convenience.  They have become required for security reasons and to block any spammers.   There should be one PTR record for every domain.  If the customer is running more than one domain on one server, then they will have to obtain different IPs for each domain.
