Why I can’t send out e-mails
29 Jun 2009, 9:56 amOur Email system is designed to be used with your domain name mail hosting, not an ISP account. This means that you should have your own domain name with e-mail working at your domain@domain.com. If you do not have your own domain name or if the hosting provider does not provide adequate mail resources, please contact Arrow Voice & Data 1300555330.
Email is sent using SMTP server. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. Some ISPs require you to first download your e-mails before you can send out. But Arrow voice & Data will give you access from the minute your internet is with us.
Make sure outgoing connections to port 25 is not blocked by the firewall.
The first and easiest thing to check is to make sure firewall is not blocking outgoing connections on port 25. To test this, go to a command prompt on your smart mail server and try to telnet to a few external mail servers.
The command is: telnet mail.arrowdsl.com.au
You should get a response like this:
220 mail.arrowdsl.com.au
If you were unable to telnet, then you will need to check your firewall.
