Wireless Network Security tips

15 Feb 2010, 2:32 pm
  1. Turn on wireless encryption – This is essential for wireless security, without it everyone within your Radio Frequency range are able to capture traffic from your internet services, gather usernames and passwords and illegal activities such as hacking.
  2. Disable Service Set Identifier (SSID) Broadcast – SSID is the wireless network name that identifies a wireless network. You should disable the SSID, this will hide your wireless access point from unwanted users.
  3. Change Default Password – It is recommended change password to non-dictionary based words
  4. Enable Firewall is on – make sure the network router built in firewall is enabled.
  5. Position the Router – Try not to position the router near windows or walls, some signal leakage to outside could be exploited by unwanted guest.
  6. Turn off Network Router – If you are not away for a long period of time, best thing to do is shut down the network router to prevent unwanted usage.
