BlackBerry Browsers
24 Oct 2008, 2:17 pmBlackBerry devices can have up to three browser configurations. Users can select the configuration that is optimised for their BlackBerry Solution or the type of content that they want to view. For example, users might use the BlackBerry Browser configuration to access their organisation’s intranet and use the Internet browser configuration to subscribe to web signals.
BlackBerry Browser
The BlackBerry Browser configuration optimises the appearance of HTML web pages in the browser. The BlackBerry Browser is designed to provide users with secure access to their organisation’s intranet, as well as access to the Internet, using the BlackBerry MDS Connection Service or the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
Internet Browser
The Internet Browser configuration also optimises the appearance of HTML web pages in the browser. Users can use the Internet Browser to access web pages that allow them to subscribe to web signals or access ring tones.
The Internet Browser uses the BlackBerry Internet Service as its gateway to the Internet. Because the BlackBerry Internet Service does not require a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, which typically exists behind an organisation’s firewall, it can be made available to non-corporate clients through their BlackBerry service providers.
WAP Browser
The WAP Browser configuration connects to the network using a WAP gateway. WAP gateways must support WTP-level segmentation and reassembly. The WAP Browser configuration does not support proprietary WAP extensions.
Using the Browser
When the browser loads web pages, a progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen to indicate the number of bytes downloaded out of the total number of bytes. If the content on the web page is longer than the screen, a scroll bar appears on the right side of the screen. To move to previous web pages, users press the Escape key. To close the browser, they hold the Escape key.
The browser menu includes most actions that users would perform when they browse. Menu items change depending on the context.
