Smartnumbers – How Do I Get One?
19 Jun 2009, 6:32 pmSmartnumbers are highly desirable (e.g phone words or patterned numbers) 13, 1300 or 1800 numbers that are allocated through an online auction system by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).
If you want to purchase a Smartnumber, you first need to complete a registration form and pay a registration fee. You should ensure that the number you wish to obtain is available, and check the auction schedule and dates prior to registering. To search for a number, click here .
Reserve prices for Smartnumbers in the public auction process will vary according to the Smartnumber requested, however the large majority of numbers have a minimum reserve price of $500. The reserve prices for all Smartnumbers are posted on the Smartnumbers website.
If you are the highest bidder when the auction closes you must pay ACMA the required amount and obtain a Rights Of Use PIN (ROUPIN). You must be the ROUPIN holder to connect a service to a Smartnumber.
Once you have successfully bid for the number of your choice, you must pay the eligible amount to the ACMA within 30 days. Once payment is received and processed, you are then able to connect the Smartnumber with the provider of your choice.
