VOIP: Get What You Pay For
24 Dec 2008, 1:28 pmBefore you consider taking your brother in law’s advice and moving your business across to voice, consider the following things:
1. VOIP is NOT regulated in Australia. There are no measures in place for failing to provide services to customers. There are no penalties to carriers for extended periods of down times.
2. VOIP requires BANDWIDTH. Yes, VOIP requires a very healthy Internet connection. Healthy Internet connections COST MONEY. The 2c you saved on that local call cost you 6c in bandwidth to put the call across.
3. VOIP requires POWER. Who knew!?!?!? Computers require power. Your power goes out, so does your only method of communication to the outside world.
If you are prepared to spend several thousands of dollars on an unregulated, bandwidth intensive system just to save you an extra thousand or so per year, think again, what if that one call you that can make or break your business gets dropped out? Some savings!
